About Me

My name is Samuel Mattison, and I am a part-time political reporter and full-time university student from Montgomery, Alabama. I am currently a senior at Troy University in Troy, Alabama, pursuing degrees in Political Science and Multimedia Journalism.
My interest in politics started in middle school when President Barack Obama was elected to his first term. Since then, I have been active in following political news at all levels. I tend to read stories from the Associated Press, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal.
I've been covering Alabama politics since March 2017.
Since March 2017, I've been a part-time political reporter for the news site Alabama Political Reporter. The website publishes five days a week and covers all aspects of Alabama politics. We even cover national events if they affect Alabama.
I've covered everything from the State House to the State Capitol. Whether it be spending 15 hours in the State House covering the Legislature or handling a press release, I've done it all.
I love the feeling of being in a committee meeting and staying up late to finish a news story. But above all, I enjoy covering events that will affect lives far beyond the State House.
Just give me an idea, and I'll give you a story. If you can't give me any that is fine too. I can produce my own ideas for your consideration. I work with editors and other reporters on a daily basis.
